CAS - Control And Status

Flygt's monitoring unit CAS is designed for use with the "Big and Blue" pump program, from model 3231 and larger. Characteristic for these pumps is that a separate pilot cable is used for transmission of sensor signals from the pump to the electrical start equipment. CAS has four separate channels for monitoring, thus providing an interface for the standard set of sensors used with this range of pumps.

Monitoring channels
Channel A, leakage detection

As standard, this channel is used to detect a possible leakage into the stator housing by means of the FLS20 (ball float switch).

Other sensors that can be connected are CLS (capacitive leakage sensor) optionally used in the oil housing or FLS, a float switch with small dimensions used in the junction box.

Channel B, leakage detection
This channel is similar to the A-channel and can optionally be used with the sensors suitable for the A-channel.

Channel C, temperature monitoring
This channel is used for monitoring of stator temperature with thermal switches or up to three PTC-thermistors in series. The thermal switches are normally closed and will open in case the temperature exceeds 140°C (284°F).

Channel D, analog temperature monitoring
This channel is used for monitoring and indication of the temperature measured with a Pt100 sensor. As standard the temperature in the main bearing is monitored with a Pt100. Optionally pumps can be equipped with a Pt100 sensor also in the support bearing or in each of the three stator windings.
Only one Pt100 sensor can be connected to the D-channel, which means separate Pt100 relays (or CAS units) are necessary in case the pump is equipped with more than one Pt100 sensor.

For further detailed info as how to install, operate and troubleshoot CAS, please refer to the INSTALLATION and SERVICE manual (see below).
