What indicators to report?
An assessment was done in December 2007 to identify what indicators should be reported in the new Sustainability Report for ITT Water & Wastewater.
We used the Global Reporting Initaitive (GRI) as guidance for the selection of indicators.
The assessment/self diagnosis evaluated: • Materiality (report on significant impact/issues raised by external stakeholders) • Balance between indicators • Transparency restrictions • Availability of information
The assessment resulted in a decision to report on Level C, the lowest level of ambition of reporting according to GRI.
Performance Categories:
The ambition is to report at least one indicator for each category: • Environmental • Human Rights * • Labor practices and decent work • Society • Product Responsibility • Economic * We failed to report an indicator for Human Rights, since the data for the chosen indicator “Total number of incidents of discrimination and actions taken” is confidential. However there is a well defined system of ombudsmen at each site and employees have received updated information who to contact in case of discrimination.
Reporting frequency: We will update the performance indicators annually. In many cases we have only reported data for 2007, since that is the baseline year for the new founded company. In some cases, where it has been possible we have gathered data also for 2006, in order to establish a trend line.
Goals and Action plans: Some indicators have goals. During 2008 we continue the integration work with the new company and will then be able to communicate new goals and action plans.
Reporting structure: • Finance information is taken from ITT Water & Waterwater Finance Dept. • Labor practices information is presented by region: - Europe & Middle East, - America (North & Central & South) and - Asia Pacific.
The information from the region is presented by HR managers in each country.
• Society information is presented from Business Development Dept. • Product Responsibility is presented from Integrated Management System Dept. • Environmental information is presented from each site and aggregated by each company, then aggregated to region and then to HQ level. Note: Also sales and service sites are included in the report. reporting units - environmental indicators (259 KB)
